It was outside the lecture halls that I discovered what really makes my heart beat faster.
During my board year at LKvV, I served as chairman and spokesperson in the year Covid broke out. That’s when I discovered how fascinating the political landscape is and how much energy I get from collaborating with organizations. Without that experience, I would never have realised that governance and organizational sciences suited me far better than my original technical study. During my year on the board of the Studenten Organisatie Groningen, I discovered where my strengths really lie.
I learned how to handle a wide range of tasks – particularly those related to student participation and the association – and how to combine them. I learned a lot from all the collaborations, and the friendships I made during that time still enrich my life today!
I did a board year with Lijst Bèta, part of the TU Delft Student Council for the academic year 2023–2024 — and it was useful in every single way.
My perspectives were challenged, and my stress resilience reached new heights. I gained hands-on experience with office work and bureaucracy unlike anything I’d encountered before. My board became like a second family, and the connections I made still help me in my current part-time job and future career. Most importantly, seeing the real impact you can make on even one person gives a lasting sense of purpose and belonging.
